25/06/2021 Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali NFTs going up for auction on new marketplace

Binance NFT is entering the digital art space.

Story at a glance

NFTs, or nonfungible tokens, are units of data that appear on blockchains, a list of records and transactions linked together using cryptographic codes.
The technology is used for a range of purposes, including tracking and validating original art.
A new NFT marketplace is launching with works inspired by Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali.

There’s a new marketplace for NFTs, or nonfungible tokens, and they’re entering the growing space of digital art with some of the biggest names in the game: Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali.

"NFT technology has revolutionized the world of art for good, bringing the concept of digital ownership to life for the very first time. As a fitting tribute, we’re kicking off the launch of Binance NFT with a collection that brings together two of the most celebrated artists of all time," the company said in an announcement.

Because digital art can so easily be replicated and reproduced, digital artists have begun using NFTs to mark their original works, a tech-heavy definition that boils down to something similar in concept to a coded digital trademark, and preserve its value. The Binance NFT marketplace is opening up with an auction titled "Genesis" on June 24 featuring two big works as well as a series of "mystery boxes," which could contain anything from extremely rare, limited edition NFTs to more common collectibles and work from their “100 Creators” program featuring local artists, who receive a 1 percent lifetime royalty on their work.

"Warhol’s introduction of mass production techniques to visual art has foreshadowed today’s digital world, where content can be easily copied, downloaded and reshared. Just as Warhol changed the perception of value when it came to reproducible artwork, NFT technology has forever changed the way we assign value to digital art," said Binance about the Pop Art pioneer.

Warhol's "Three Self Portraits" is the inspiration for a community artist’s tribute, which goes up for auction Thursday morning with an exclusive run of 100 NFTs. The second is a digitally recreated version of "Divine Comedy: rebeget," a watercolor illustration by Salvador Dali commissioned by the Italian government in 1965 in honor of the 700th anniversary of poet Dante Alighieri’s birthday.

This year, on the 700th anniversary of Dante's death, Binance is auctioning off a digitally recreated version of the piece as an NFT. And if you zoom in close, you'll find blockchain elements hidden in the work, including the Bitcoin symbol, the Binance logo and the signature of the company's founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ.

Michael Jordan - Crown Collection
“All you needed was one little match to start that whole fire.”- Michael Jordan. In regards to both the action on the court and everything that happened off of it, Jordan provided a spark that changed the future in so many different ways throughout his tenure in Chicago, and even decades after the fact. And, in the end, he got everything that he wanted when he began his NBA journey: he turned the team and organization as a whole into a respected program, like the dynasties he looked up to as a child. Right Place & Right Time (bitcoin hourly price offset)
Each day, a new composition for the Master is generated autonomously using a data feed of Bitcoin's last 24 hours of price action. Each hour's price programmatically controls rotation, scale, and position of a correlating layer. Astute viewers will surmise the day's price volatility simply by examining the artwork. While the daily image generation is the result of autonomous API calls, utilizing an algorithm the artist wrote, the artist has chosen to retain a control token. This token allows him to fine-tune variables associated with his algorithm, in addition to addressing aesthetic concerns within the life-cycle of the artwork. Layer state, alpha, hue, saturation, and brightness are elements the artist has retained control of in order that this artwork remain a living work-in-progress. An earlier iteration of this artwork was featured as a nightly projection mapping video on the face of the Daniels Fisher Clocktower, as part of ETH Denver 2020. The Harvest
An anthropomorphic figure stands, wide eyed, staring at the viewer; its body masculine, muscular, and humanoid. Its “mind” dissociates into a conglomerate of structures resembling feathers, grain, teeth–as well as a radial flower “node”, casting linear rays throughout the composition. To his left, a vat of bodies gesture and writhe in a kind of amniotic soup, attended by a video game robot. The bot's red display reads “uWu”. Behind the robot and filling the left side of the composition is an archaic figure composed of a variety of vintage objects and symbols. Among them are a hardbound book with ancient cuneiform scripts, indicating barley, beer, bread, ox, house, and sky, behind which is a grimacing, salivating jagged toothed maw; and an old Commodore floppy drive. The figure’s head tilts toward an illuminated crescent moon, suggesting the Egyptian Sacred Bull. The archaic figure is composed of a variety of mutating cells, which shift in color, and pattern; eventually breaking free into an ephemeral broadcast of bubbles which move across the background. The work came into being against a psychological introspection, which included associations to pop culture such as alien abduction and pod people, as well as quite a bit of reflection on grains as a symbol of civilization, agriculture, sustenance, life, and imbibing (mainly whiskies).
