The National Basketball Association will beginmintingits upcoming Ethereum NFT collection of 18,000 assets calledThe Associationon Wednesday.

NFTsare unique blockchain tokens that indicate one’s ownership over an asset, like a piece of digital art. Each Association NFT represents a real NBA player in this year’s playoffs. There will be 75 NFTs of each player from the 16 different NBA teams participating.

But, as with actual players, these NFTs don't stay static. NFT traits will evolve over the course of the playoffs based on each player’s real-life performance, meaning that a certain number of dunks, blocks, three-pointers, rebounds, or assists will change that player’s image. NFT backgrounds and “frames” will also change based on the player’s team’s performance.

Notably, The Association’s NFTs won’t cost NBA fans much. Its website states that the NFTs will be free to mint, but interested collectors will have to pay for the cost of gas on Ethereum. That said, the NBA is reserving some assets for holders of NBA Top Shot NFTs and limiting anyone to a maximum of one per wallet.

After the presale minting begins, the NFT art will be revealed on Friday and visible on NFT marketplaces likeOpenSea.

The news comes shortly after theNBA launcheda Discord server (with nearly 50,000 members) and a fresh Twitter account dedicated to all things “NBA x NFT.” Interest had also been swirling after some pointed out that the NBA had filed atrademark applicationfor “The Association” branding earlier this month.

While the NFT market as a whole isslowing down, interest in sports NFTs has persisted. Last week, the Gary Vaynerchuk-backed NFT basketball gameSwoopsannounced a $3.5 million funding round to help build out its fantasy sports title on Polygon.

Ethboy
Young Vitalik takes on the role of Picasso’s son Paulo dressed as Harlequin in this artwork but the octahedron Ethereum logo replaces the chequered pattern of the original jester outfit. Leaning against a large chair, the boy genius fiddles with his fingers in a somewhat nervous manner; nevertheless, he stares directly at the viewer with what appears to be a confident, ‘Mona Lisa-like’ smile. Vitalik has no idea what the future has in store for him, but he’s prepared to face any obstacle ahead as he begins life's adventure.

Block Chain Dungeon
Once upon a time... a little boy named Leo loved to paint, draw and experiment. He also loved to play with blocks and chains, which drew him again and again into the rooms of his friends Michel and Angelo. Often they also met in virtual rooms of Cryptovoxels, Decentraland, Somnium Space or Sandbox to create new inventions, read books about new technologies, or just swing the brushes. But on this day something gigantic happened. A good friend of Leo came to visit and brought his girlfriend Mona, who wanted a piece of Leo's art on her skin. This was the birth of the NFT's, as Leo developed Non Fungible Tattoos in the Block Chain Dungeon of Michel and Angelo. From that day on people from all over the world came to get NFT's from Leo or one of his students, like "Skeenee the rat", who controls the NFT machine with his laptop. A new age began.
