The crypto market may be crashing, but that is hardly putting the kibosh on the festivities surrounding the NFT NYC conference. Only time will tell whether or not crypto entrepreneurs, influencers, and artists are fiddling while Rome burns, but in the meantime, here’s our go-to guide to exhibitions and events to check out during the four-day event.

“NFT SEA” at iPic Fulton Market, New York

This event at the iPic movie theater downtown is a block party with live music and DJ sets in the streets, and a full slate of panels, discussions, and presentations of digital art in screening rooms. There’s alsoa virtual event starting at 6 p.m. Attendees can also mint a free commemorative NFT that Henbo Henning made for the event—provided you want to pay the gas fees—or bid to buy one of 25 unique NFT SEA poster art NFTs.

“Juneteenth Celebration and NFT Art Gallery Exhibition” atCaelum Gallery, New York

NFT art marketplaceFimi Market Inc.(the name is Jamaican patois for “for me”) and feminist-minded curatorial agencyAlice Riotare hosting a Juneteenth party celebrating Black artists and their work, both traditional and digital. The night will feature Caribbean small bites, beer, and wine, as well as conversation with NFT artist Kwame and a live painting performance.

“Crypt Gallery NFT Exhibition” at theDream Downtown

Luxury hotel the Dream Downtown is partnering with theCrypt Galleryto launch a permanent NFT exhibition space in its lobby, featuring 70 built-in digital displays. To celebrate the opening, SuperRare is co-hosting a two-day party at the space on June 20 and June 21, and auctioning off anew Corvette NFTby the artist Xsullo for the occasion. The work, titledOwn the Color, comes with a physical version of the depicted Corvette Z06, in the color “Minted Green,” created by the artist and unique to this project.

“NFT NYC” at the Marriott Marquis Times Square

The white-hot sun around which all these satellite events orbit, NFT NYC, which first launched in February 2019, returns with a packed schedule covering the intersection of NFTs and fashion, film, sports, art, gaming, and pretty much everything else you can think of. (The theme is “The Diversity of NFTs.”) If you didn’t plan ahead for this one, the conference will cost you a pretty penny—last minute tickets cost $849, or $1,999 plus $105.76 in fees for VIP admission. That’s up from $599 if you bought tickets when they first went on sale.

“Digital Identity” at SuperRare Gallery, New York

For its third gallery show, SuperRare has organized a show of works by 18 of the platform’s artists, including XCOPY and Alienqueen, exploring themes of physical and digital identity. SuperRare will also partner on June 21 with Nasdaq in celebration of their LGBTQ+ Leaders Conference and NFT NYC week.

This hybrid in-person and virtual salon will reflect on the history of art and technology over the past 50 years, while also presenting new tech experiments. There will be an installation and performance by John F. Simon based on the existing NFTs in theEvery IconNFT series, which is based on the artist’s web-based software art, work first released in 1997.

Artechouse, an immersive art show featuring project digital art projects, hosts a panel discussion on Web3, NFTs, and experiential art with LiveArt and Palm NFT Studio. The NFT platformZorais hosting its second Zoratopia IRL event (the first was during Art Basel Miami Beach). Things kick off on Tuesday with a “Vibe Sessions” brunch at the Gaia Nomaya wellness center with yoga, music, and art. There are online panels about Web3 diversity and “Building Tools for New Diversity” on Wednesday, followed by in-person photoshoots for the “NFT fam.” The finale is the Ravey Basement dance party at the Knockdown Center on Thursday, featuring art curated by Cyber Baat, DJ sets, musical performances, and free food.

“Fvckrender: Lvcidia” at Studio 525

The digital artist Frederic”Fvckrender” Duquette has created an immersive experience blending “IRL elements” with 360 degree projection mapping of the otherworldly digital dimension he callsLvcidia. A space-themed gaming metaverse, the project will also include an open-edition NFT for sale only during NFT NYC. The installation will feature music from DJ Steve Aoki’s A0K1VERSE, and Aoki will perform at the party Tuesday evening.

“Cartography of the Mind: A Curated NFT Sale to Benefit MAPS” at Christie’s New York

NFT specialist Noah Davis’s latest online auction is a collaboration with collector Ryan Zurrer, founder of Dialectic and Vine Ventures, featuring works by the likes of Beeple, Mad Dog Jones, Sarah Meyohas, and Refik Anadol. The sale will benefit the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) nonprofit, and is accompanied by at exhibition at the auction house showroom.

The World Trade Center is hosting its first-ever NFT art show, presenting work from five female-identifying artists on the space’s 100-yard screen. Curated by Afrodet Zuri, the show aims to illustrate the equalizing potential of Web3 to be a space where artists are valued independent of their race or gender. LaJunĂ© McMillian’sBlack Movement Libraryproject features motion-capture technology, 3D-modeling software, and data collection and includes a database of Black dance and movement that activists, performers, and artists can use in extended reality, or XR projects. McMillian’s related film,The Black Movement Library-Movement Portraits, also screened earlier this month at the Tribeca Film Festival, is on view for three minutes each night this month for the Midnight Moment in Times Square.
