23/09/2022 The Goblintown Creators Just Launched an NFT Marketplace

The Alpha:

  • Truth Labs, the Web3 company behind projects likeGoblintown, Illuminati, and The 187, has launched theTruth Labs Marketplace, a dedicated platform for its NFT collections, according to a press release shared with nft now.
  • Snag Solutions, a white-label NFT marketplace, built the platform in partnership with Truth Labs.
  • The aim is to enable secondary sales of NFTs from its collectionswith reduced fees for sellers, according to the release. The Truth Labs Marketplace will charge a single 5-percent royalty marketplace fee for transactions on the platform.

Why it matters

The stance Web3 companies take towardsmarketplace fees and royaltiesis still evolving. By creating this new platform, Truth Labs aims to address what it and many others in the space view as unacceptably high fees on marketplaces like OpenSea. OpenSea takes a 2.5 percent marketplace fee off of the final price of every NFT transaction and allows creators to set royalties from 2.5 to 10 percent.

“Beyond reduced royalties,” the company explained in the press release, “Truth Labs will introduce more stringent processes for reporting stolen NFTs to better align with the ethos of Web3 and decentralized technologies.”

OpenSea’sstolen item policyhas come under increased scrutiny after it updated its guidelines to require police reports within seven days of a user submitting a ticket claiming an NFT as stolen. But many are discontent with howthe platform has approachedand executed its policy. In fairness, however, the decentralized nature of the blockchain means that security in Web3 can be slippery.

What’s next

Truth Labs’ decision to go with an entirely new marketplace dedicated to reducing fees and increasing security for the NFTs in its collections will be an interesting Web3 experiment to watch. Suppose other Web3 entities follow a similar model. In that case, it could lead to a few different things: increased marketplace diversity, greater competition and innovation from NFT communities regarding how they manage their collection, and even more heated (but necessary) debate surrounding the royalties conversation.

Likewise, Snag Solutions’ mission to build brand-specific marketplaces could see significant developments in this respect. Zach Heerwagen and Jason Jong founded the company in July to get around costly NFT marketplaces, and have already launched platforms forCrypto Chicksand Citizens of Tajigen.https://opensea.io/collection/goblintownwtf

On top of that, Jong and Heerwagen’srecent proposalto build a marketplace for ApeCoin DAO passed by a landslide in theBored Ape Yacht Clubcommunity. And it’s impressive to see a company emerge in the middle of a crypto winter and make waves with such massive names in the NFT space.

Rainbow Crumble
Created by Wren Weichman. The challenge was simple: can a simulation be satisfying? This piece was inspired by the vibrant colors and clean aesthetic of candy - yes, candy. The crumbling tiles are complimentary in color from the background to balance out what first seems broken.
Art Is The Currency of the Infinite
This still-life, titled after one of Pablo Picasso's infamous quotes, was made solely using 3D softwares and apps, in an attempt to bring this often forgotten artistic genre into the 21st century through the use of new artistic mediums and technologies. This piece is also an invitation to meditate on the role of "value" throught the ages and how it's been radically altered by the coming into existence of technologies and concepts like cryptocurrencies and digital scarcity.
Fuku-Shiva
The term “Fuku” refers to fortune or good luck. “Shiva” refers to the Hindu deity who represents strongly polar qualities, both severe and delicate. On a beach inspired by adventures on Phi Phi island in Thailand, three youths cavort. Two are representational figures and the third is psychologically rendered. A dynamic relationship ensues between the triad; a reciprocity of active and passive states. The boy on the right engages in maneuvers of evasion, defense, and is dressed in a speedo which reiterates the colors and symbolism of the caution tape on the left and upper right frame of the composition. In concurrent reaction the psychedelic figure shoots out a rocket powered paper airplane. The nude boy seated in the froth and sand approaches in passive repose, and is met with active attention but equal physical reserve by the psychedelic being. Perhaps the most naked figure is also the least representational. Looming large, dynamic, and active, it engages its companions playfully. Various symbols interject into the otherwise naturalistic scene, most notably a beach ball and two contaminated barrels nested in the sand. The upright barrel reads “FukuShima” in Kanji. The barrel laying down reads “Dharma”. To the left the scene is bounded by caution tape, reiterating the danger of the nuclear waste while also hosting alien archetypes, whose presence, as is the nature of these entities, runs up and just behind the consciousness of the psychedelic figure’s eggshell-like skull.
