16/06/2021 Next-Gen Game Developer Mythical Raises $75M for Playable NFTs
The funding round will offer external game developers a way to bring NFTs into their fictional worlds.
Mythical Games is opening its non-fungible token (NFT) platform to external game developers following a $75 million funding round.
The primary game in development, Blankos Block Party, includes animated NFT game characters as well as customizable aesthetics players earn through gameplay. Players in the beta version already hold more than 100,000 NFTs, and as the audience continues to grow, Mythical expects these rare assets will accrue value in the secondary markets.
A bevy of investors found that thesis worth backing. WestCap Group, primarily backed by former Airbnb and Blackstone executive Laurence Tosi, led the Series B round, with participation from Gary Vaynerchukâs VaynerFund, Galaxy Digital, Javelin Venture Partners and others.
The eight-figure round suggests that investor interest in NFTs remains strong even as NFT markets have cooled since their March peak.
The broader goal of Mythical is to âbring blockchain gaming to the masses,â said Adam Bain of investor 01 Advisors. With the additional funding, Mythical aims to build a âplatform for game developers to create their own player-owned economies,â the firm said in a press statement.
Traditional game platforms discourage transferring or selling of items owned by players, spawning the use of black and gray markets where users become vulnerable to potential scams. Some games even punish players who participate in these trades by banning them from the game site. NFTs represent a potentially new model.
Mythical said transactions occur on its own private blockchain. In June 2020, Rudy Koch, the firmâs co-founder, said it intended to run on the EOS mainnet. Whether thatâs still the case is unclear.

The River Plate Machine
Digital illustration for the cover of These Football Times magazine in its issue dedicated to the Argentine football team "Club Atlético River Plate". Original from 2020.
For this cover I have created a complex machine that links all the generations and legends of the club with its great shield and emblem crowning the center as the heart of the fantasy machinery. Full of details and ornaments this is a highly detailed work. An authentic trip to the history of River through the imagination and the colors of the club. The most significant titles of the club are also included, such as the Libertadores Cup, the famous Intercontinental and the new Super Liga and the Argentine Cup in its newest cup design.
If you see a hen, don't be surprised, it is the nickname that its fans give themselves, and they like it.

Once upon a time...
a little boy named Leo loved to paint, draw and experiment. He also loved to play with blocks and chains, which drew him again and again into the rooms of his friends Michel and Angelo. Often they also met in virtual rooms of Cryptovoxels, Decentraland, Somnium Space or Sandbox to create new inventions, read books about new technologies, or just swing the brushes. This was the birth of the NFT's, as Leo developed Non Fungible Tattoos in the Block Chain Dungeon of Michel and Angelo. From that day on people from all over the world came to get NFT's from Leo or one of his students, like "Skeenee the rat", who controls the NFT machine with his laptop. A new age began.
