While Tezos is billing itself as the “green” blockchain due to its proof-of-stake bona fides, today it’s embracing a different color – “Very Peri blue.”

But – in very 2021 fashion – Pantone, the developer of the modern color matching system, is releasing the color through a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Tezos blockchain.

The collection will feature NFTs designed by artistPolygon1993, each utilizing the color in its artwork.

Pantone says it tapped Tezos as its blockchain of choice for being a “fast, secure, and energy-efficient” network, according to a press release.

“Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place,” Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a statement.

Tezos made headlines Tuesday when Ubisoft chose the blockchain to deployin-game NFTs into its “Tom Clancy: Ghost Recon” title for the first time. It sent XTZ, the native asset of the blockchain, flying.

While Very Peri blue is the first color Pantone has made into an NFT, it will not be the last.

A Tezos representative told CoinDesk that Pantone has further NFT plans in the works.
