14/10/2022 New York Cares Non-Profit Highlights Using Web3 for Good With NFT Fundraise

Non-profit volunteer organizationNew York Caresis embracing the world of Web3 philanthropy by sellingnon-fungible tokens (NFT)to raise funds for Stand with Students, an initiative to help support local public schools that have faced disproportionate socio-economic struggles exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although fundraising efforts have seen success over the last three years, Keith A. Grossman, Time president and New York Cares board member, told CoinDesk he’s not only passionate about raising money for underprivileged students, but also about implementing technologies to propel a new wave of philanthropic efforts.

“In Web3, there is a desire and an intent for people to show that the space has tremendous good in it. Doing something like this is the best example to highlight the good,” said Grossman.

The collection will feature over 16,000 digital pieces created by Open AI’s DALL-E. Each artificial intelligence-generated piece is inspired by differentWinston Churchillquotes that are interpreted in the style of 13 artists including Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Individuals who previously signed up forGrossman’s “About Nothing” allow list can now mint digital artworks that are priced at 0.05 ETH (about $65) each. The site will be open to the public on Friday at midnight ET, and will close Sunday at noon.

Additionally, users who mint over five NFTs will receive a digital piece from artist Pablo Stanley’sHumankindcollection, and those who mint more than 10 will receive a digital collectible fromMicah Johnson, the artist behind the Aku World NFT collection.

All of the proceeds from the first and secondary sales will go towards bolstering academic programs, providing school supplies and enrichment programs throughout New York City.

New York City Department of Education Chancellor David C. Banks said in a press release that he is ready to embrace new technology to uplift over 1 million students across the roughly 2,000 schools he oversees.

“To ensure a bright future for our young people, we must collaboratively take a technologically driven approach to supporting our schools and our young people,” said Banks.

Domestic - 2017
“Domestic is the manifestation of the cultural patriarchy in my home. The wooden "woman's" tragedy of false desire. It was done in a moment of breakup. The hollow 3d body & its lost eyes, invites you to fill up. Trying to reach out, encumbered and wrapped in its own fragility, the new mother rises."

Auto-Erotic Sphinx with Toys
In this image, a giant sphinx spoons itself in erotic play within an aquatic styled environment littered by various denizens. These creatures include symbols and archetypes both current and nostalgic–each inhabiting a rootedness within mass cultural adolescence. Among the roster are Servbots, video game inspired mushrooms, a Pacman-like creature, a distant sea faring rubber duck, creatures sporting the symbols reminiscent of popular anime, and a Pokemon-like rabbit (a novel incarnation of Ganesha indicated by the Shiva trident on its nose). In addition, a few sea creatures partly inspired by sea monsters of western antiquity conglomerate along the mid left side of the composition. The Sphinx itself is an amalgam of aquatic, fetishist, ancient Egyptian, and 80’s style adornments, both living, as in a clown fish, or material, such as a cassette tape. Nautically colored antennae receive somatic signals from the atmosphere, perhaps from the 8 Ball moon or giant ringed planet beyond.

Inspired by and for the 2018 North American Bitcoin conference in Miami, Florida. The palm tree that has a cracked open Bitcoin coconut suggests that by traveling you can enjoy this tropical digital fruit. The peacock nesting in the tree has spread its wings to flaunt other integrated crypto logos as well. The famous Miami skyline at the bottom incorporates the coins, as well as the code that is transforming the banking buildings that made it. The origin of that skyline is in the 80's cocaine craze, so it is all incorporated into the story of foundational transformation, linked to a global movement. The file size is suitable for an 8K TV.
