FIFA, the international governing body for the world's most popular sport, is dropping a limited number of digital collectibles later this week that will give holders the opportunity to watch the final game of the 2026 World Cup, according to a statement.

"For the first drop, 100 digital collectibles will be made available ... and will feature the rarest collectibles that offer the chance to secure 2026 FIFA World Cup final tickets," the statement said. "A total of 900 other digital collectibles will be issued on the Polygon network and made available on the OpenSea platform."

FIFA's NFTs were originally minted on Algorand, but are now planning to move to Polygon with the second stage of this upcoming collection, a blockchain popular among web3 gaming projects. Future FIFA digital collectible launches will also utilize Polygon, the statement said.

When FIFA first announced "FIFA+ Collect" last year, it was billed as offering "football fans around the world with the chance to affordably own unique digital collectibles." The NFT drop comes as the FIFA Club World Cup 2023 is set to kick off tomorrow in Saudi Arabia.

While NFT trading volumes have rebounded recently, levels are still far below where they were during the last bull run when PFP non-fungible tokens from top-tier collections like Bored Ape Yacht Club sometimes sold for millions of dollars. Big brands, however, have continued to pursue opportunities to service and monetize super fans with digital collectible initiatives.

Modex takes over

FIFA also announced that Modex will be taking over "strategic management" of its digital collectible platform, which has already dropped several football-branded collections. "Digital collectibles increase the ways in which fans can interact with their favorite players, teams, and the game they love, and we're honored to support FIFA on realizing this goal," Modex CEO Francesco Abbate said in a statement.

Auto-Erotic Sphinx with Toys
In this image, a giant sphinx spoons itself in erotic play within an aquatic styled environment littered by various denizens. These creatures include symbols and archetypes both current and nostalgic–each inhabiting a rootedness within mass cultural adolescence. Among the roster are Servbots, video game inspired mushrooms, a Pacman-like creature, a distant sea faring rubber duck, creatures sporting the symbols reminiscent of popular anime, and a Pokemon-like rabbit (a novel incarnation of Ganesha indicated by the Shiva trident on its nose). In addition, a few sea creatures partly inspired by sea monsters of western antiquity conglomerate along the mid left side of the composition. The Sphinx itself is an amalgam of aquatic, fetishist, ancient Egyptian, and 80’s style adornments, both living, as in a clown fish, or material, such as a cassette tape. Nautically colored antennae receive somatic signals from the atmosphere, perhaps from the 8 Ball moon or giant ringed planet beyond.

Changes is the only thing that hasn’t been changed. From time to space to the thoughts of human beings are constantly changing. I transformed a Silver Gelatin Photogram (a piece of physical photograph made of alternative photographic processes) into a digital image that even can produce endless changes. This is based on the change in my way of seeing the world. It is difficult for individuals to completely isolate themselves from their own inherent culture, this ingrained imprint not only stems from families but also social and historical influences. Besides, the rapid innovation of science and technologies directly drives the world today to inevitably facing collisions and fusions in multiculturalism. Studying classical philosophical text allows me to apply the dialectical method to tease those open questions, and finally ground on my artworks. All things complement each other and balance in the collision. Changes is the key. Isn’t the development of human civilization that come to the present evolve in indistinct ways?
