17/09/2021 Dance music NFT platform RCRDSHP closes multi-million dollar seed round, backed by the buyers of $69m Beeple digital art piece

The NFT market has exploded in 2021 and today brings news of yet another multi-million dollar funding round for a digital collectables platform.

RCRDSHP, an NFT platform for electronic music, has closed its first investment round, which the platform reports to be a “multi-million dollar” seed round.

MBW understands that the platform has raised over $5m in seed funding.

Last month, San Francisco-based NFT platform MakersPlace raised $30 millionin a Series A round led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Pantera Capital.

In May, NFT platform OneOf raised $63 million in a seed round from prominent tech and music industry veterans.

RCRDSHP’s seed round was supported by NFT collectors Metakovan and Twobadour (via PortKey Technologies), and Dapper Labs.

Metakovan and Twobadour bought the highest priced NFT in history back in March, a $69 million digital art piece created by Beeple and auctioned at Christies.

According to a media statement, each limited-edition RCRDSHP collectible, built on Flow blockchain, “encapsulates a unique aspect of an artist, label, or festival’s musical worlds”.

The platform launched in mid August with a drop of 5555 “genesis packs”, made up of electronic and dance music digital collectibles.

The release sold out “in a matter of hours”, according to RCRDSHP, with a second larger release selling out “in minutes” the following week.

RCRDSHP’s music and content partners included Aneesh Gera, Ashley Wallbridge, Bar25, Black Hole Recordings, Blanco Y Negro, Blacksoul Music, Christian Barbuto, Circus Recordings, CloudKid, Dexter King, Dino Maggiorana, Disco Fries, D-Nox & Beckers, D-Unity/Unity Records, Great Wall Festival, HQ Recordings, Iboga Records, Kaiserdisco, Kaiser Souzai/Ballroom Records.

The Moth Catcher
In this psychologically bed-headed portrait, a creature sets in a trance; his eyes devolved and vestigal, his third eye open but hardened and in a form resembling a Sharingan. The imagery therefore expresses an awareness existing in corporeal introspection. The creature’s mind sprouts, on the left side, an emerging face, grinning. To the right side of the head, red tentacles and fingers intertwine–a collaboration of invertebrate and vertebrate consciousness cooperatively handling paint brushes of the sort used to build an oil painting. The neck and throat bristle with random thorns, as from a rose or the upper portions of a beak sprouting from its flesh. The neck itself disassociates into layers of membranous material, terminating upon an abstracted base of convoluted forms composing its body. The nose is virtually non existent, more a sinus reiterative of the shape of the third eye. Set against the exposed teeth peering out of thick, meaty cheeks, a skeleton-like impression results. That impression sets behind a visceral set of lips and tongue, which is the creature’s prime seat of awareness. Sensual, organic, the tongue organ hangs, meaty, and with consciousness of a sea cucumber. It illuminates at the tip, drawing the attraction of a nearby moth–with mystery of purpose.
