Are NFTs a scam? One man has created a 20TB repository of NFTs called ‘NFT Bay.’

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are taking the music industry by storm. Several marketplaces have sprung up offering pieces of artwork, golden tickets, and more – all sold as an NFT. But one man questions the idea of NFTs and if buying a digital piece of ablockchainreally proves ownership when anyone can ‘right click’ and save a picture.

Australian Geoffrey Huntley went on the heist of NFTs to download 20TBs of NFTs on theEthereumandSolanablockchains. Huntley told gaming blogKotakuthat the ‘NFT Bay’ (modeled after the infamous Pirate Bay) is an experiment designed to teach the public about what NFTs are and aren’t.

Are NFTs a Scam?

“Fundamentally, I hope people learn to understand what people are buying when purchasing NFT art right now is nothing more than directions on how to access or download an image,” Huntleysays. “The image is not stored on the blockchain and the majority of images I’ve seen are hosted on web 2.0 storage, which is likely to end up as a 404, meaning the NFT has even less value.”

Essentially, owning an NFT tied to artwork is like owning a certificate of authenticity. When the ‘golden ticket’ owners of the NFT sold by Kings of Leon show up for a concert, their status will be verified using that NFT. But skeptics believe non-fungible tokens aren’t capable of being the digital identifiers they claim to be.

Computer scientist Antsstylesays“NFTs are only valuable as tools for money laundering, tax evasion, and greater fool investment fraud. There is zero actual value to NFTs. Their sole purpose is to create artificial scarcity of an artwork to supposedly increase its value.”

That assessment is the core argument to whether NFTs are a scam or not.

If concert organizers are distributing concert tickets using the blockchain and ‘golden ticket’ owners can resell their rights using NFTs – is that useless? It’s already being done for futureKings of Leon concertsand ties a physical experience to the holder of that specific NFT. Those NFTs lose value eventually; Kings of Leon won’t be performing on tour forever.

Crossroad
LIMITED EDITION 1/1 | includes signed limited edition prints of all 3 states (pre-election, Trump win, Biden win) This piece is a first for Nifty, a token that will change based on the outcome of the election. If anything is constant about the times we now live in, it's uncertainty. This uncertainty is perfectly encapsulated in this piece of artwork as the person buying the piece will not know the final artwork. The artwork will be one state at auction before the election, and after the results of the election are known, will forever change to reflect a Trump or Biden win. PLEASE FUCKING NOTE: If trump wins, this token will change to that video of sexy boi king trump stomping through hell FOREVER. I don’t want you coming back to me bitching that you spent $2M* on this and now it’s a video of orangeman going HAM and it’s keeping u up at night popping mad boners. should have voted bruh. *and stfu that this isn’t gonna be worth a fuckton more when I hit 30 years of everydays and have a permanent collection in the MOMA. smh.
No Entrance to the Wetlands
Inspired by the Torrey Pines State Reserve and the many fences that block it. This particular section of the wetlands connects to the Pacific Ocean, and is a very popular spot for San Diego locals.
Beautiful Worlds
Welcome to the ‘Beautiful worlds’ where nature and technology have merged into a single entity. These are Ai generated and hand finished visions of solarpunk future in which I would really like our future generations to live and prosper: the future we might have if we took the very “alternative route” which now lies before us: replacing states and corporations which free federations of communities and cooperatives, using decentralist and ecological technologies to create a world beyond economic scarcity and social hierarchy, defined by autonomy, mutual aid, diversity, and inclusiveness. The long-term goals of solarpunk are freedom and well-being for all by adopting and developing such ecological technologies as: solar, wind, wave and geothermal energy rather than oil or gas to generate electricity; a world of decentralized eco-cities, permaculture and vertical farming, free and open-source software, open-source hardware, small-scale fabrication laboratories, micro-manufacturing, 3D-printing, and countless examples of commons-based peer-production online: meeting the maximum amount of needs, in the shortest time, using the minimum possible amount of energy. It’s a world of decentralized and confederated eco-communities, using technology for human-centric and eco-centric ends rather than for accumulating power and profit – mending the metabolic rift between first nature (the natural world) and second nature (human culture) – and where social hierarchies of race, gender, sexuality, and disability are considered horror stories from the past “oil age”. Solarpunk desires societies of polycultural ethnic diversity and gender liberation, where each person is able to actualize themselves in societal environment of free experimentation and communal caring; This philosophy proposes that in order for the social and natural worlds to reconcile, humans must first transform their relations to each other – recreating society along egalitarian, cooperative, and democratic lines – and then transform their relations towards nature – adopting an attitude to cooperation, rather than domination, towards the planet and its nonhuman forms of life.
