20/05/2022 The celebrity love affair with NFTs may be just beginning -- even amid flops and doubts

(CNN)It seems that every few days, a new star announces their foray into the world of non-fungible tokens, cryptocurrency or some other inscrutable corner of themetaverse-- the general term for a nascent virtual space where people can play, meet, and of course, buy things.

This has been a habit for a while now, and every starry-eyed announcement usually promises some form of connection or exclusive opportunity. But for the majority of the population who don't own cryptocurrency or NFTs (and may not care to), big names and the pricey tech concepts they promote make for strange bedfellows indeed.
Take some recent examples: Last week, Madonna mintedan extremely NSFW NFT collection that featured explicit images of her giving birth to a tree, as well as a 3D model of her undercarriage. Charitably, the reactions were mixed.
Earlier this year, there was the Brie Larson incident,in which the Marvel actress shared a peek inside what she called her "corner" of the metaverse. The 30-second Twitter video featured a blonde avatar with only a passing resemblance to Larson shuffling awkwardly around a virtual museum filled with NFT art.
Countless other stars, athletes, artists andeven sports teamshave taken similar wobbly steps to promote crypto or NFT partnerships, sometimesto the derision of criticswho see NFTs as a money-making venture that doesn't benefit fans -- or at least not ones without plenty of cash to spare.

Who's in control?
In a society where everyone wants to control everyone, who's in control? "Who's in control?" is a mirror of a controlling society, a futuristic vision of a current reality. The Harvest
An anthropomorphic figure stands, wide eyed, staring at the viewer; its body masculine, muscular, and humanoid. Its “mind” dissociates into a conglomerate of structures resembling feathers, grain, teeth–as well as a radial flower “node”, casting linear rays throughout the composition. To his left, a vat of bodies gesture and writhe in a kind of amniotic soup, attended by a video game robot. The bot's red display reads “uWu”. Behind the robot and filling the left side of the composition is an archaic figure composed of a variety of vintage objects and symbols. Among them are a hardbound book with ancient cuneiform scripts, indicating barley, beer, bread, ox, house, and sky, behind which is a grimacing, salivating jagged toothed maw; and an old Commodore floppy drive. The figure’s head tilts toward an illuminated crescent moon, suggesting the Egyptian Sacred Bull. The archaic figure is composed of a variety of mutating cells, which shift in color, and pattern; eventually breaking free into an ephemeral broadcast of bubbles which move across the background. The work came into being against a psychological introspection, which included associations to pop culture such as alien abduction and pod people, as well as quite a bit of reflection on grains as a symbol of civilization, agriculture, sustenance, life, and imbibing (mainly whiskies).
Fractal Creatures // Wolf
I've always been fascinated with animals: Their elegance, their beauty and their mystical expression. So this is my personal exploration of a few of my favourite creatures. This is the last piece of a series I started by the end of 2020. This project now consists of seven artworks. Created with Fresco and Photoshop. Every single line is hand-drawn without any kind of rulers. Fractal Creatures // #7 out of 7 // Wolf // 3500 x 5000px
