Update 2 [Thu 19th May, 2022: 17:00BST:

The project has now been formally unveiled, with an introductory video by Keiji Inafune and an official website. Sadly it has no update on the 3DS version of Mighty No. 9.

Update [Wed 18th May, 2022 03:45 BST]:It seems the same countdown webpage on PolkaFantasy has now been taken offline. As stated in the original story, it's believed by some that the whole project may be a scam (via@Protodude) ā€” we'll update this article as soon as it's confirmed one way or the other:

Original story [Wed 18th May, 2022 02:15 BST]:Mega Manartist andMighty No. 9creator Keiji Inafune is reportedly working on a new NFT project known simply as 'Beastroid'. According to a countdown website discovered on the Japanese NFT marketplacePolkaFantasy(viaVGC), the legendary artist has designed his very first futuristic NFT collection.

"Beastroid Vol 001 is Inafune-san's first futuristic NFT collection integrated with incredible utilities. As he is stepping foot in the Metaverse, PolkaFantasy is proud to present the official debut of the robo-revolution collection on its brand new Marketplace 2.0."

There's even some lore attached - noting how there are awhopping2,620 Beastroids (translation NFTs) to be launched by July.

"World's first future-driven NFT revolution by 2,620 Beastroids landing on Earth to save all human beings. In 20xx, humans are in danger of extinction. In their hope to survive, Paradise is the destination. An organisation led by a wealthy man Ethan deployed "Guardian V" to protect the grounds and to kill any human that tries to breach. To counterstrike, Beastroids are the only hope for the future of mankind."

A roadmap reveals how Beastroid owners will eventually be able to explore the "infinite potential" of these NFTs, and holders will be entitled to "enjoy the privilege" of interacting with Inafune through various social events.

Although Keiji Inafune has a history with Capcom series likeStreet Fighterand Mega Man, in recent years, it was histroubled Kickstarter project Mighty No. 9 making headlines. When this project was finally released itunderwhelmed audiences. There were also performance problems and it was eventually revealed"zero progress" was made on the handheld ports.

Here are just some of the Beastoids Inafune has apparently worked on - with all of them seemingly drawing inspiration from the Mega Man series:

It's worth mentioning the current debate surrounding the legitimacy of the project and whether Inafune is actually involved, as his copyright and signatures aren't supposedly featured on the website. VGC editor Andy Robinson, who covered the original story, has responded to thisvia social media:

"From what I understand, this project is not supposed to be announced - somebody found it early via Google - so itā€™s not surprising Inafune isnā€™t talking about it. Also itā€™s incredibly common for marketeers to source bios from elsewhere"

"This appears to be a credible marketplace, and that page has Inafuneā€™s name and some kind of original art all over it. Could they have decided to build all that for a scam? Sure, but why? Either way, I donā€™t think absence of his copyright and signature debunks it at all"

Since NFTs took off, various celebrities and evenvideo game companies like Konami have been getting involved. How would you feel about Keiji Inafune jumping on the NFT bandwagon?Leave a comment down below.

Who Is The Creator 2
The idea for this piece was borne out of a tweet of mine that caused a bit of a stir. Iā€™d posted a link to a blog article Iā€™d written a number of months previous titled ā€˜Who is the Creatorā€™ discussing various types of creative collaborations and why I hire people to work on my animations. It generated a lot of debate around creation and attribution with the community split on whether itā€™s right or wrong for an artist to hire other professionals to help them realize their art projects. I decided to push the boundaries even further and see how the cryptoart community responded. What if I quite literally had nothing to do with the physical or digital elements of the work other than coming up with the concept and coordinating it? I decided there was one artist in the space who could add huge value to this idea on levels that none other could and so I gathered my courage and contacted the great JosĆ© Delbo to ask him if heā€™d be interested in a very unique collaboration. I explained to him that to make this piece ā€˜workā€™ he couldn't have any say in what I produced and moreover, he wouldnā€™t even be allowed to see the animation until it was dropped on MakersPlace. To my surprise, Mr Delbo agreed to my proposal. The animation tells the story of the creative process, which includes my roles as writer, director, and producer working with a team and making edits and changes ā€˜in real timeā€™. The dialogue between myself and my ā€˜hired gunsā€™ plays out in front of the viewer. The music written for the piece adds to the nostalgia of the comic book superhero theme but other elements such as the snapping and kicking of the pencil and the signing of my signature at the bottom incorporates further layers and challenges the viewer to ask important questions, such as, is the ā€˜Artā€™ the final animation (the creation) or is the ā€˜Artā€™ the concept/credit for the creation itself?
The Harvest
An anthropomorphic figure stands, wide eyed, staring at the viewer; its body masculine, muscular, and humanoid. Its ā€œmindā€ dissociates into a conglomerate of structures resembling feathers, grain, teethā€“as well as a radial flower ā€œnodeā€, casting linear rays throughout the composition. To his left, a vat of bodies gesture and writhe in a kind of amniotic soup, attended by a video game robot. The bot's red display reads ā€œuWuā€. Behind the robot and filling the left side of the composition is an archaic figure composed of a variety of vintage objects and symbols. Among them are a hardbound book with ancient cuneiform scripts, indicating barley, beer, bread, ox, house, and sky, behind which is a grimacing, salivating jagged toothed maw; and an old Commodore floppy drive. The figureā€™s head tilts toward an illuminated crescent moon, suggesting the Egyptian Sacred Bull. The archaic figure is composed of a variety of mutating cells, which shift in color, and pattern; eventually breaking free into an ephemeral broadcast of bubbles which move across the background. The work came into being against a psychological introspection, which included associations to pop culture such as alien abduction and pod people, as well as quite a bit of reflection on grains as a symbol of civilization, agriculture, sustenance, life, and imbibing (mainly whiskies).
