12/12/2023 Pudgy Penguins Reveal 'Pudgy World' NFT Game Rollout Plans

The Pudgy Penguins NFT empire is expanding and will open the gates for its metaverse experience Pudgy World sometime in 2024.

Pudgy Penguins, the Ethereum NFT profile picture (PFP) collection first launched in July 2021, has unveiled a trailer at Art Basel in Miami for its 3D browser game experience, dubbed Pudgy World, which is slated to launch in alpha sometime in 2024.

After controversy surrounding its original owner led to abuy out and change in leadership last year, Pudgy Penguins appointed an executive advisory board, raised $9 million in funding, stocked plush penguin toys in over 2,000 U.S. Walmart stores and Hot Topic locations, and has posted viral videos with millions of views across its social media channels.

Now, Pudgy Penguin fans can take their first steps onto the ice in Pudgy World’s lobby. When it fully releases, Pudgy Penguin NFT holders as well as plush toy owners will be able to adopt a virtual likeness of their collectibles as a 3D character in the world.

Pudgy World will also be free-to-play, however, so gamers can hop into Pudgy World, choose whether to buy traits to customize their own characters, and “embark on a story-driven journey,” according to a statement.

The story of Pudgy World will follow two penguins, Pudgy and Peaches, as they embark on as-yet-unrevealed adventures.

“The alpha launch of Pudgy World is a massive step forward for the Web3 and NFT space because Pudgy Penguin owners will be playing with their Pudgy Toys, without any pre-existing knowledge of the blockchain technology it is built on,” said Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz in an announcement.

An anthropomorphic figure stands, wide eyed, staring at the viewer; its body masculine, muscular, and humanoid. Its “mind” dissociates into a conglomerate of structures resembling feathers, grain, teeth–as well as a radial flower “node”, casting linear rays throughout the composition. To his left, a vat of bodies gesture and writhe in a kind of amniotic soup, attended by a video game robot. The bot's red display reads “uWu”. Behind the robot and filling the left side of the composition is an archaic figure composed of a variety of vintage objects and symbols. Among them are a hardbound book with ancient cuneiform scripts, indicating barley, beer, bread, ox, house, and sky, behind which is a grimacing, salivating jagged toothed maw; and an old Commodore floppy drive. The figure’s head tilts toward an illuminated crescent moon, suggesting the Egyptian Sacred Bull. The archaic figure is composed of a variety of mutating cells, which shift in color, and pattern; eventually breaking free into an ephemeral broadcast of bubbles which move across the background. The work came into being against a psychological introspection, which included associations to pop culture such as alien abduction and pod people, as well as quite a bit of reflection on grains as a symbol of civilization, agriculture, sustenance, life, and imbibing (mainly whiskies).

For this cover I have created a complex machine that links all the generations and legends of the club with its great shield and emblem crowning the center as the heart of the fantasy machinery. Full of details and ornaments this is a highly detailed work. An authentic trip to the history of River through the imagination and the colors of the club. The most significant titles of the club are also included, such as the Libertadores Cup, the famous Intercontinental and the new Super Liga and the Argentine Cup in its newest cup design.
