Osaka's 1-of-1 NFT from Record-Breaking April Collection Accepting Offers Starting at $200,000

NEW YORK, Aug. 30, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- The sports memorabilia and NFT markets continue to break trading volume records in 2021, and now a rare non-fungible token created by Naomi Osaka will go up for sale, according to promoter Cool Media PR.

In April, Osaka and her sister, Mari Osaka, dropped a six-piece collection of 1-of-1 NFTs. The NFTs were individually auctioned on retail marketplace Basic.Space,and they collectively sold for nearly $600,000. One of the editions was purchased for $200,200, which, to date, is the highest single NFT sale by a professional tennis player.

Now, the owner of the sixth and final Osaka NFT is putting the piece of digital artwork up for sale, hoping to capitalize on the favorable timing of the booming NFT market and the start of the U.S. Open tennis tournament this week in New York.

Soccer superstar Lionel Messi sold a 1-of-1 NFT for more than $1 million last week. In July, heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury sold a single-edition token for $987,000. Professional athletes Patrick Mahomes, Rob Gronkowski, Francis Ngannou and Andy Murray have all sold one-of-a-kind NFTs in the six-figure range this year.

One of the two major credit card companies bought a rare CryptoPunk last week for more than $165,000 in Ethereum, with the sole reason of adding to its "collection of historic commerce artifacts."

"This is an extremely unique piece, and the story behind it brings a lot of value to the future of sports memorabilia collecting through NFTs," NFT expert and founder of CryptoStache.com, Shea Newkirk said of the Osaka artwork for sale.

The NFT is titled "Finding What Was Lost," and Osaka's sister told HYPEBEAST.com that this edition was Naomi's favorite of the six. The artist caption by Mari reads:

"While she may occasionally lose her way, Naomi always manages to find herself back on the path she has been searching for."

All of the NFTs are signed by both Naomi and Mari. The NFTs were created on the Flow blockchain, which is the same blockchain that produces NBA Top Shot's non-fungible tokens.

Fuku-Shiva
The term “Fuku” refers to fortune or good luck. “Shiva” refers to the Hindu deity who represents strongly polar qualities, both severe and delicate. On a beach inspired by adventures on Phi Phi island in Thailand, three youths cavort. Two are representational figures and the third is psychologically rendered. A dynamic relationship ensues between the triad; a reciprocity of active and passive states. The boy on the right engages in maneuvers of evasion, defense, and is dressed in a speedo which reiterates the colors and symbolism of the caution tape on the left and upper right frame of the composition. In concurrent reaction the psychedelic figure shoots out a rocket powered paper airplane. The nude boy seated in the froth and sand approaches in passive repose, and is met with active attention but equal physical reserve by the psychedelic being. Perhaps the most naked figure is also the least representational. Looming large, dynamic, and active, it engages its companions playfully. Various symbols interject into the otherwise naturalistic scene, most notably a beach ball and two contaminated barrels nested in the sand. The upright barrel reads “FukuShima” in Kanji. The barrel laying down reads “Dharma”. To the left the scene is bounded by caution tape, reiterating the danger of the nuclear waste while also hosting alien archetypes, whose presence, as is the nature of these entities, runs up and just behind the consciousness of the psychedelic figure’s eggshell-like skull.
