17/01/2024 GameStop Announces Closure of its NFTs Platform

Binance's Thailand Division Begins Operations

US video game retailer GameStop has just announced it has made the decision to close its NFTs platform due to uncertainty over cryptocurrency regulation.

According to the announcement, the closure will take effect next February 2.

Access more than 50 of the world's financial markets directly from your EXANTE account – including NASDAQ, London Stock Exchange and Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The statement reads:

"Your NFTs are on the blockchain and will remain accessible and saleable through other platforms."

GameStop announced in August its digital wallets would no longer be available on November 1 likely due to regulatory uncertainty in the cryptocurrency sector.

The marketplace's X account has also not been active since September last year.

Fuku-Shiva
The term “Fuku” refers to fortune or good luck. “Shiva” refers to the Hindu deity who represents strongly polar qualities, both severe and delicate. On a beach inspired by adventures on Phi Phi island in Thailand, three youths cavort. Two are representational figures and the third is psychologically rendered. A dynamic relationship ensues between the triad; a reciprocity of active and passive states. The boy on the right engages in maneuvers of evasion, defense, and is dressed in a speedo which reiterates the colors and symbolism of the caution tape on the left and upper right frame of the composition. In concurrent reaction the psychedelic figure shoots out a rocket powered paper airplane. The nude boy seated in the froth and sand approaches in passive repose, and is met with active attention but equal physical reserve by the psychedelic being. Perhaps the most naked figure is also the least representational. Looming large, dynamic, and active, it engages its companions playfully. Various symbols interject into the otherwise naturalistic scene, most notably a beach ball and two contaminated barrels nested in the sand. The upright barrel reads “FukuShima” in Kanji. The barrel laying down reads “Dharma”. To the left the scene is bounded by caution tape, reiterating the danger of the nuclear waste while also hosting alien archetypes, whose presence, as is the nature of these entities, runs up and just behind the consciousness of the psychedelic figure’s eggshell-like skull.

Flow
This was a quick and relaxed drawing but an important one. It was made in 2017 in Windows Paint, while listening to V.O.T.U. podcast, one of the many projects revolving around Steem blockchain. Things weren't looking too good at the time - the moods and prices were low. I made a few drawings of deepwater creatures then reflecting on that scene. The stylized shark here is flowing above it all,as in space independent of the circumstances. The graphic style in the background reminds of the market charts, but is also inspired by the landing scenes in an old game called Captain Blood that we had on AtariST in 80's. Thanks to this drawing i got a big commission to make illustrations for a webnovel "They Didn’t See It Beneath Them" by Verbal-d in exchange for Steem. I had still faith in the blockchain then and it paid off as things started to look upwards pretty soon. Ofcourse things are quite different now three years later in 2020. A lot of people, including myself, have moved on to Hive, a new platform that forked from Steem after some dramatic events. I'm still grateful for the early days on Steemit and this is a good memory for me and a little piece of history in the great currents of the cryptoworld. Additional notes: There may be some blurriness in the preview image and the effect gets emphasized because of the technique, but it does not extend to the actual file. That being said, to achieve a particular look I do work in small resolution which is native to the MS Paint. In order to meet the size requirements, which will allow for larger prints for example, the pixel dimensions have been scaled up for these limited editions. If you have purchased an edition and would like the small image or have any questions, please contact me via email: [email protected]
